St. Catherine's Players

St. Catherines Players New 10 18

 Dear Players and Friends,

On behalf of the Board of St. Catherine’s Players, we are pleased to announce that Denise and Tom Casazzone have been named as the new producers for SC Players.  In their volunteer capacity, they will work with the Board in vetting show suggestions, manage overall operations including the creative team, subcontracts, licensing, budgeting, revenue generation, volunteers, and communication.  Wendy and I will continue to manage the Board and liaison closely with Tom and Denise during the transition.

Over the past decade, Tom has served in leadership roles at the $10M international nonprofit Pencils of Promise; a local hunger relief nonprofit Food Rescue US, and currently as CEO at a community organization in town OGRCC.  In these roles, he has managed all operational and programmatic aspects of these organizations including human resources for large staffs, budgeting, financials and payroll, program oversight, large scale event planning, fundraising and social media.  He also is a Lecturer at Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs.  In a volunteer capacity, Tom serves on the Impact Council of Pencils of Promise, as a coach of various youth baseball and soccer teams, as the event chair for a local charity event, and as the committee chair of two of North Street School's initiatives:  Watch D.O.G.S., which brings father figures into the school for rewarding volunteer opportunities, and Onstage, which is the annual elementary school musical theater production, involving more than 125 kids - or approximately 50% of the student body from 2nd to 5th grades.   He grew up in Greenwich and raises his four kids in town with Denise.  Since middle school, he has performed in, music directed or been a part of many shows and is excited for this opportunity.

Denise moved to the East Coast in 1999, continuing her career in banking.  After 9/11, she joined the staff of the Manhattan Theater Club that renewed her passion for theater, performance, and the production side of the arts.  For the next ten years, she worked at two leading performing arts organizations in the finance and operations departments.  More recently, she worked as an operations manager for an energy company and is active on the North Street School PTA, serving on the Executive Board.  In 2013, she had her second child and joined her first SCP production, returning to the stage that brought her so many fond memories as a child.  Originally just looking for a creative outlet, she did not realize that by joining the cast of the Sound of Music she would be joining the tight knit family and strong community of SCP.  Eight years and six productions (and two more children) later, Denise is honored to have built so many new friendships and bonds and is looking forward to continuing to grow SCP.

Together their experience and skills make them an ideal match for our needs.  We know that you will welcome Tom and Denise with open arms to their new roles with SCP!

As you know, due to construction plans at the church, the 2021 production has been cancelled.  With the current COVID situation, we would likely have had to “go dark” anyway.  We will, however, be exploring opportunities for virtual or appropriately scaled events in the future.

Best regards,

Jody Breakell and Wendy Blumenthal
